Jose Varela

Jose Varela, Senior Vice President, Latin America Corporate Affairs & Governance and Managing Director, 3M Mexico. Born in El Salvador, José began his career at 3M since 1989 at the Department of Treasury and Finance of that country. Since then, he has held both regional and global positions that have led him to Mexico as President of 3M Mexico.

José Varela, previously served as Global Vice President of Purchasing, having an inspiring leadership career in the company with representative roles such as the Vice Presidency for Occupational Safety, from where he led the acquisition of Capital Safety to 3M; as well as the Presidency of Panama, Chile and Brazil, among other positions in the areas of sales, finance, operational planning and supply chain management.

José’s experience in regions such as Asia Pacific and Latin America as responsible for sales planning and operations gives the team of 3M Mexico a clear vision, accompanied by passion for the country by having a Mexican mother and resided a couple of years at the country. As part of his commitment to society, José is a founding member and Secretary of the Board of Junior Achievement Panama, founding member and VP of the United Chile Fund Council, Member of the Board and Chairman of the Trade Committee of AmCham Chile, Member of the Board of Fondo Unido Brasil, Board Member AMCHAM Campiñas-Brasil, Board Member of MEDA Minnesota and Chairman of the Retroactive Council of El Salvador.
